Throwing Stones, or The Bird

Consider the middle finger. It’s essential and useful, typing the “i” and the “e” on the keyboard, for just 2 important uses, but we know it has even more power than that!

When the middle finger is held up, and the other fingers are down, adrenaline often surges.

I’m no exception; despite my “Live Aloha” bumper sticker (and attitude, I like to think), when I noticed a middle finger being held up at me by a smug, hiding his face arrogant young guy in the backseat of a passing Beamer with 2 other guys in the front seat, accompanied by a loud incoherent yell at me, I was immediately enraged.

“Gotta f–king problem?!” I shouted at the arrogant bastard as I sped past them holding up my own middle finger. WTF?! There I was just driving along, and boom, a middle finger flashed at me completely flared my emotions. I didn’t recognize the guys; nor do I know of many people who would be pissed at me and give me “the bird.”

It launched me into a contemplation of our reactions and emotions to other people; we can be so affected, or not. Maybe overcoming my natural instinct here to become angry and strike back and letting their stupid action have no affect on me was my lesson there.

Deep sigh. I ruminated over it the entire 16 mile drive to the beach. Sunset.

After the sun set, I attempted to throw the ball to my dog as we walked down the beach (seems my throwing arm could use some improvement)… when I saw this boy, who thankfully, also needed some improvement in his throwing skills.

“That’s mean!” I said to him, twice b/c he (acted like?) he didn’t hear me the first time. The boy, about 16 or so, was throwing stones at seagulls. He almost hit one as I was walking toward him. “Don’t throw rocks at the birds!” I admonished him and his friend, who looked astonished that some random girl with a dog on the beach would correct him. He looked at me and didn’t answer.

His parents, I’m assuming, were a few steps beyond him, and as I took a few more steps, the dad raised his eyebrows and lifted his head toward me. “Do you think it’s okay for him to be throwing rocks at the birds?” I asked him.

“He didn’t hit the birds,” he answered.

“Well he almost did, and he tried,” I insisted. “It’s not cool. I don’t understand why you guys would come to enjoy the beach and throw stones at the birds. It’s just not cool,” I said, tugging on my dog’s leash and grabbing her ball that she had dropped in front of the dad, oblivious to the exchange I guess.

I walked on, shaking my head. Well, at least nobody got hurt. The bird flew away, and I too will learn to rise above throwing stones…  Image

Animal companions add so much to our lives. My dog Ginger is such a blessing in so many ways. She is always happy to see me, hugging me when I get home, and same with the kids. Whenever she sees anyone she knows, she gets so excited and welcomes them with such pure joy.

You can’t not smile around her. Dogs are constant companions, forever loyal, loving and protective too.

Ginger is our first alert; deterring any kind of evil from entering our home.

She also gets me out to exercise ~ we love our hikes! Dogs are truly (wo)man’s best friend. Loyal, loving, protective, playful and perfect. Psychic too.

The connection and understanding is amazing. I told Ginger today to “fix her leash” and she lifted first one leg, then the other to untangle her leash; she truly understands.

The link between humans and animals is a natural wonder I am so grateful to experience. Dog is God spelled backwards, after all.

Did I mention she’s part human too? Connection…

Cut the Corruption, Eat Naturally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mom was recently told by her doctor that her thyroid was enlarged, and he encouraged her to have it removed. Located in the neck, the thyroid gland’s job is to produce hormones that regulate our metabolism. Called the “spark plugs of the body,” by Dr. Paul Eck, the thyroid hormones are essential for energy production in our cells and impacts every area of body functioning: digestion, heart health, fat metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, protein synthesis, body weight, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, muscle strength, sleep and sexual functioning.

Thyroid cells are also the only cells in the body that absorb iodine, which combines with the amino acid tyrosine. Amino acids are the building blocks of cells, and we know our metabolism “refers to the way the body turns food into energy,” (thank you A 2 Z of Health, Beauty and Fitness: http://health.learninginfo.org/function-thyroid-gland.htm).

Even more, thyroid hormones “are also concerned with creativity and expression in the world.  They are needed to reach out to the world and participate in it.  Those with very low thyroid functioning are often withdrawn and depressed for this reason.  In contrast, many famous people who are ‘out in the world’ have higher levels of thyroid hormones,” says Dr. Lawrence Wilson, at http://drlwilson.com/Articles/hormone%20therapy.htm.

It’s also interesting to me that the “thyroid gland is located right at the level of the fifth energy center called the throat chakra.  This center has to do with expression and creativity. Thyroid problems are sometimes more severe in individuals who are having difficulty expressing themselves, or who feel suppressed or shut down in their creative endeavors.”

Being that the thyroid is so essential to our body’s functioning and well-being, why would a doctor advise someone having thyroid problems to just cut it out?

There was no discussion between my mom and the doctor about why the thyroid was enlarged, how it gets that way, and other possible ways to treat it. Instead, he was eager to refer her to several experts who could schedule her thyroid removal (at a mere average patient cost of $37,246!!: http://www.surgerycosts.net/price.php?medical=thyroidectomy-surgery), after which she would have to take thyroid medication for the rest of her life (joining the millions of Americans alone who take these drugs). When we look at the money to be made by these pharmaceutical companies, we can understand the motives.

As Dr. Wilson, MD, who has taken the time to address this issue (thank you Dr. Wilson!), tells us, “Hormone replacement therapy is costly.  The costs include 1) the hormones, 2) repeated testing that is absolutely required to prescribe them properly and 3) longer-term costs because one must usually stay on them for years.  Other hidden costs may be the damage they cause to the body. In addition to the financial burden, one becomes dependent on tests and doctors that in itself extracts a human cost.  Cost is not important if it saves a life, but it is important for most people, especially if less expensive alternatives such as nutritional balancing can be used instead” (http://drlwilson.com/Articles/hormone%20therapy.htm).

Natural therapies are available for thyroid treatment. Unfortunately, it’s not part of our Western medicine protocol to even address them. This makes it essential for people to actively become involved in researching, for health.

Our medical system has not always been this screwed up. Before the American Medical Association (AMA) came along in 1847, natural therapies and holistic medicine were the norm.

It’s not surprising to learn that money is the reason why things have changed, to the point where when someone suggests looking into natural, “alternative” remedies for health issues, they are looked at as a little “quacky.” What most of us don’t realize is in the 19th century, the homeopathic schools were the leading health treatment!

As the story goes, John D. Rockefeller’s father was actually, literally, a snake-oil salesman.

“He was a patent remedy seller. The drugs, of course, are oil-based, and John D. Rockefeller was an oil magnate. He also had a bank. So did J.P. Morgan. The drug industry—the patent remedy industry—was in competition with the natural herbal remedies, and the homeopathic remedies. And the way they prevailed in the whole system was that, first of all, they funded the American Medical Association—the AMA Journal, which got their funding from advertising. And if your drug was advertised in the AMA Journal, then you’ve got the AMA’s seal of endorsement… It was a cartel.”

Civil litigation attorney Ellen Brown writes about this in some of her 11 books on health and the politics of health, “including the Web of Debt: The Shocking Truth About Our Money System (which focuses on the money and banking system itself), and Forbidden Medicine, which traces the suppression of natural health treatment back to the corrupting influences of our financial system.”

Brown became involved with the legal team of Jimmy Keller, who is an alternative cancer therapist in Tijuana who was jailed for, “the alleged crime of representing that he had a high rate of cure for cancer.”

“He always showed the movie World Without Cancer to his patients, which is by Ed Griffin,” she says, “so I read the book World Without Cancer, and it linked the cancer industry—the cancer cartel, basically—with the banking cartel. It showed they had the same roots.

It went back to the Rockefeller-Morgan cartel at the turn of the 20th century. Rockefeller, Morgan, and Carnegie supported drugs, funded the medical schools, and basically got the homeopathic schools shut down. (In the 19th century, the homeopathic schools were the leading health treatment.)

… I realized in the course of that that if you wanted to get to crux of the problem, you had to deal with banking, because that was actually where they got their power. They got their power from the power to create money.”

Brown recommends reading The Creature from Jekyll Island and World Without Cancer to learn more about the links between banking and the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Mercola highlights more about this here: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/07/15/ellen-brown-discusses-money-system.aspx?e_cid=20120715_SNL_ArtNew_1

Natural is the Way
As I’ve been researching natural thyroid treatments for my mom, I have not been surprised to learn that good nutrition is the basic therapy, as it is for many, if not all dis-ease.

Australian Naturopath & Wellness Coach Louise O’Connor offers the following suggestions (note: natural food!)

  • “Up your intake of iodine-rich foods such as Japanese sea vegetables e.g. nori, wakame, kombu and arame. Thyroid hormones contain iodine making this a critical mineral for normal thyroid activity.
  • Cook your brassica vegetables for six to seven minutes. These vegetables contain ‘goitrogens’ which prevent the use of iodine. Goitrogens are found in broccoli, sweet potato, cabbage, cauliflower, turnips, brussel sprouts and mustard greens. Cooking inactivates the thyroid inhibiting effect.
  • Choose traditional soy products. In Asia, small amounts of traditional soy foods are consumed. This includes tofu, natto, miso, tempeh, and boiled soy beans (edamame), rather than the large amounts of refined and unfermented soy products that are now found in our Western supermarkets.
  • Eat selenium-rich foods such as asparagus, Brazil nuts, grains, garlic and mushrooms. Selenium assists activation of thyroid hormones.
  • Eat foods that provide a plentiful supply of zinc such as oysters and pumpkin seeds. Zinc is a necessary nutrient to assist healthy thyroid activity.
  • Avoid trans fats or ‘plastic fats’ found in margarine, TV dinners, bakery foods, commercially prepared snack foods and deep fried food. These very unhealthy fats are very damaging to the thyroid cell membranes.” –http://www.natural-hormone-health.com/natural-treatment-for-thyroid-problems.html

I’ve also read that pineapples contain bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme that eats anything foreign in our bodies!

And again, we see how natural foods lead to natural health. Anything else needs to be cut out!

Bloom like a Rose

http://bonnielambert.artistwebsites.com/displayartworkartistwebsites.html?id=3010740&width=250&height=313 Today I made a new discovery about someone I know. I’ve worked with Bonnie, remotely, over the years, as she’s the designer for a publishing company I work with on occasion. Recently I’ve received some emails about her art shows and paintings, but I was always so busy, I never took the time to look at them. Today, I did, and am I glad I did. Her paintings are beautiful, moving and colorfully soulful. Rose Street is one that has a particular effect on me. Hidden talents are coming forward; I say Bloom!

We are all seemingly being prompted to explore and share our interests and talents, because that’s what makes us thrive. “The glory of God is humanity fully alive.” I heard that quote on Hay House radio the other day. We’ve got a lot of living to do, so let’s open up to our unique wonders. I wonder what wonderful surprises are in store for us… “Go boldly in the direction of your dreams…….” Thoreau said to humanity.

“Bloom like a rose,” I say.

And as I just read right after I posted this, that one of my favorite authors, Ray Bradbury, died today, I will add this wise, bestselling sage and author’s words about why we are called to live fully and share our talents with the world. Talking to Caltech’s graduating class of 2000, he urged them “to witness, to celebrate, and to be part of this universe…you’re here one time, you’re not coming back. And you owe, don’t you? You owe back for the gift of life.” I always wanted to hear him speak, and I missed several talks he did at the local library. I missed my chance to meet him and hear him speak. Let that be a lesson to me, to all of us:

Live. Now.

Look at it Right

“Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.” Thank you Jerry Garcia et al. for those lyrics, another true observation of life.

Perception is everything. I didn’t notice this flower sticking its tongue out at me, or even its eyes when I took the picture. There was so much beauty around us in the botanical gardens, I didn’t notice the details on this one at first. When I looked at the pictures closer, one by one, I immediately noticed this one making a face at me! Love it!

Funny how our perceptions of things can change from one moment to the next, depending on the circumstances. There’s always more than one way to look at the same thing. Thankfully. Take the flower… is it angry or being funny? I’ll go with the funny any day…

Nice to have a choice. Flower will, or is that free will? However you choose to perceive it, have fun!!!!! Do what feels good. And when we take the time to look at the lighter side of life, once in a while, we’ll be surprised at what we see!!!

Eclipse-nicity, Easy Does It.

Image

Last week, one of my best friends gave me this beautiful stone bowl she had bought for me on a trip to Northern California. “I can’t wait to see what you’ll put in it,” she told me.

On Sunday, we were lucky enough to view the solar eclipse with a group of great friends at Sycamore Beach. We had Eclipse Shades from my daughter’s class, and we were sharing them with several people on the beach. The mood was amazingly friendly, with strangers talking to one another as if they were old friends and a general feeling of unity in the air.

As the eclipse was at its peak, almost resembling the “ring of fire” like the stone bowl, with one circle inside of another, I felt something brush against my leg, demanding my attention. I looked down and saw a feather had bumped into my thigh. “Wow,” I said to my friends, “this was obviously meant for me.”

My wise angelical friend, CC confirmed that. “Yes, this is your feather for ceremony. You need to find a stone bowl to put your sage in, and wave it with this feather.” Well, I didn’t need to find the stone bowl, because it was “coincidentally” just given to me a day before.

Sometimes things come easy………….. thank you Universe!

No Man is an Island

This comes from Govinda, via my friend Christina Dawn… a lot to read, but worth it!!!!!!!!!!

We should never underestimate our power to influence the evolution of the world. Each of us is an integral part of the Collective Consciousness of Humanity. When one person evolves spiritually, the Collective Consciousness evolves as well. Whenever even one person increases compassion and opens their heart to unconditional love, he/she raises the vibrational frequency of the World. As the Collective Consciousness evolves, so too shall each individual.

Uncovering Secrets In Relationships

Again, communication is a key factor in all of our personal, business and international relationships. This Venus Transit is calling for a deeper honesty in relationships. Since the Venus transit from 2004 – 2012 coincides with the Uranus in Pisces cycle, communications between humans will develop on intuitive levels. The combined energies of these two cycles will catalyze heightened intuitive awareness of our hidden emotions and desires, as well as awareness of our partners’ hidden emotions and desires. Eventually, we will no longer be able to, or need to, hide our true feelings from each other. In time, we will develop total trust and love for each other.

Here is an amazing write up by Govinda:

Venus passed between the Earth and our Sun on June 8th, 2004, and initiated an eight-year cycle known as the “Venus Transits”. The Venus Transits cycle is a rare celestial event that occurs every 113 – 130 years, when Venus eclipses the Sun two times – at the beginning and at the end of an eight-year period. The second Venus eclipse will occur on June 6th, 2012. Astrologically, Venus represents our relationships with others. Communication is a major factor in all of our relationships. Whenever Venus eclipsed the Sun in past recorded history, there was a major breakthrough in communications. For example, at the time of the last Venus eclipse in 1874, the Transatlantic Telegraph Cable was completed that created the first intercontinental communications by wire between the East and the West. In 1761, another year of a Venus eclipse, there was a collaboration of astronomers at 77 observation points from all over the world to determine the distance from Earth to the Sun.

Today, we have expanded global communications for the masses through the Internet and satellite systems. Our ability to communicate with each other worldwide is continually expanding. The questions now become: What are we communicating to our world – love or fear? and, How is our media (the Internet, computer games, the movie industry, cell phones, etc.), affecting society as a whole?

A successful relationship is created through good communication, mutual respect and consideration for one another. This happens best when we recognize and honor the Oneness in all of us. When we are able to do this, we will create peace between each other, our organizations, our governments and countries. A good way to resolve conflicts with others is to recognize how we are the same, not how we are different. This creates a foundation from which we can build a positive, peaceful relationship. For example, when a mother loses a child in war, regardless of her color or faith, the pain is the same. When someone is shown respect and love, the joy is the same. If you realize that you and your perceived enemy both want peace so that suffering may end, then you can begin to talk from a place of mutual understanding, rather than from aggravation.

The Divine Feminine Awakens

Venus eclipsing the Sun represents an awakening of the Divine Feminine energies in our world. For thousands of years, the world has been ruled by patriarchal societies. These masculine rulers have created wars, power struggles, destruction, pollution, fear, pain, separation and famine. They have shown little or no respect for feminine wisdom or our Mother Earth.

The patriarchal organizations of the world have repressed most knowledge of women’s roles in world history. Recently, information has begun to be revealed that recognizes the truth of how women have affected our history. The books, The DiVinci Code, by Dan Brown and The Expected One, by Kathleen McGowan, both reveal the truth about Mary Magdalene and her relationship to Jesus, are good examples of such information. It is time for the pendulum to swing back towards the Divine Feminine and rest comfortably in the middle. To become whole, we need both the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine energies, equally in our lives.

As the Divine Feminine energy interfaces with human consciousness, it awakens and expands compassion within our hearts, and emotional healing can occur for all of Humanity. Compassion awakens the ability to feel and express unconditional love. To be able to love without attachments or expectations is the highest form of love that a human being can express. This kind of love supports the healing of others and our personal evolution/ascension.

One of the keys to accessing Divine Feminine healing energy is through forgiveness. Only when all is forgiven will total love be available to us. We must forgive others and ourselves for all of the perceived wrongs that have ever been done. We can heal ourselves if we are willing to feel and express all of our emotions, and then to forgive ourselves and others for all that we have perceived as wrong. This process will liberate us from the bondage of our emotional pain. Forgiveness is the key to releasing ourselves from our past. When we are liberated from our past and live fullyin the “now” our true happiness may be realized and our power to create is maximized.

A Question Of Balance

Venus is the planet of love. The world needs creative solutions, feminine guidance and love in order to heal. These energies will continue to increase during this period, in spite of the attempts of the fear tactics of male dominance.

Venus represents the heart and the feminine side of our being. The Sun represents our individuality and the masculine side of our being. Venus aligning with the Sun is symbolic of our Feminine (Anima) and Masculine (Animus) energies coming into unity and balance. Venus eclipsing (in front of) the Sun symbolizes our need to consider the feminine expression first, before the masculine, and to allow the feminine energies to guide and balance masculine expression.

Creativity Awakens!

Venus also represents the creative and artistic sides of our natures. The Venus Transit will catalyze previously hidden, latent, artistic talent and creative abilities. People who have never expressed an art form before will awaken their hidden talents. Artists will discover new modalities through which they can express themselves more deeply. For example, many people who have never played a musical instrument will suddenly feel a desire to learn and express themselves through music. Some will want to join the local acting clubs, and so on.

Walking through the Valley of the Shadow of Death
The world needs a higher, altruistic, spiritual love to manifest and prevail over the lower, more selfish emotions. A world where unconditional, spiritual love prevails is our potential as human beings. Conscious and unconscious fear-based emotions are obstacles to this higher love. To discover and express this kind of love, Humanity must first expose and purge the fear-based emotions in our collective consciousness.

From an astrological perspective, Venus represents the emotional energies in our relationships with others. When Venus eclipsed the Sun, it blocked some of the Sun’s light and exposed the dark side of Venus, which represents the shadow side of our emotional natures. This began an eight-year process of uncovering the shadows in our emotional relationships. These shadows are the unresolved, repressed, fear-based psychological energies that unconsciously cause dysfunctionality and unhappiness in our relationships. They cause us to behave in ways that undermine our relationships, block intimacy, and cause breakdowns in communications. Essentially, these shadows block our ability to truly love another person. These repressed emotions usually begin during our early childhoods and/or may be carried over from past lives.

We must take responsibility for how we show up in our relationships with others. It is important to observe our feelings and our behavior with the important people in our lives, and to come to terms with our dysfunctional emotional patterns. It may be helpful and revealing for each of us to ask these questions: “Where am I not able to be truly open, honest and real in my relationships with others?”, “At what point do I shut down emotionally?”, “Where are my boundaries?” and “Are these boundaries healthy or are they blocking my intimacy?”

It is up to each of us to allow intimacy into our heart to expand our relationship with others. Intimacy can only happen when we allow others to “Into me see.” This develops when we let down our barriers and allow others to see into our hearts. To the best of our abilities, we must be honest with ourselves. We must allow ourselves to be vulnerable and expose our true feelings (even if they are negative emotions) to those whom we are in relationships with. This will endear ourselves to others and deepen our intimacy with them.

Expanding Love

Another result of the Venus Transit is an increase of our capacity to love others more completely, deeply and intensely. This will include heightened feelings of love and appreciation for our partners and other people in our lives. Our emotional natures are melding with our spiritual natures, which is expanding our capacity for unconditional love.

The opposite will also be true. We will become more clear and sensitive to the truth about all of our relationships. If a person is not in alignment with our higher good, we will become increasingly disillusioned with this person. Our dysfunctional relationships will become increasingly apparent, and we may feel a need to change the structure or boundaries of these relationships. We may need to end some of our relationships that are no longer serving our personal evolution.

What you Appreciate, Appreciates

In our relationships with others, it is good to let them know how much we appreciate their being in our lives. Let’s be thankful for all of the qualities that we enjoy in others and let them know how much we appreciate them. Remember that what we appreciate, appreciates.

The most effective way to accomplish self-understanding and personal mastery is through our relationships. We can monitor our process of personal mastery of our egos by observing our interrelations with others – are we experiencing conditional or unconditional love?

Compassion opens the door to unconditional love. Unconditional love is supported by seeing the Divine in others and acting in integrity with love. Our relationships with others are our greatest gifts, and integrity is vital for each relationship to work. Do unto others what you would have them do unto you. It helps to ask, “What is the highest good for all concerned?” The higher good for all can be perceived in your heart from a feeling of love.

No Man is an Island

We should never underestimate our power to influence the evolution of the world. Each of us is an integral part of the Collective Consciousness of Humanity. When one person evolves spiritually, the Collective Consciousness evolves as well. Whenever even one person increases compassion and opens their heart to unconditional love, he/she raises the vibrational frequency of the World. As the Collective Consciousness evolves, so too shall each individual. A quote from Bette Reese says it all: “If you think you’re too small to be effective, you have never been in bed with a mosquito.”

Integrating Sacred Love

By the time of the second eclipse of the Sun by Venus, on June 6, 2012, Humanity will have evolved to a place of greater readiness for a higher love. Hopefully, after eight years of processing the shadows of our emotions, awakening intuition and developing compassion, we will have cleared the psychological obstacles to unconditional love. Then, Peace on Earth, and Goodwill towards all people will be possible. Sacred love expands when the Divine in one person appreciates and honors the Divine in another. Thus, the sacred wheel of love is created and Heaven on Earth will manifest for those individuals. As this happens for everyone, Peace on Earth will become a reality.

Namaste,
Govinda
